Community Angel Tree program in McKenzie celebrates 30th anniversary

MCKENZIE, Tenn. — This year marks the 30th anniversary of McKenzie’s community Angel Tree.

Angel Tree is a program that McKenzie City Recorder Jennifer Waldrup began with the ladies service organization of Beta Sigma Phi after recognizing that many families in her area needed help during the holiday season. The program provides clothing and toys to children in need. Funding for Angel Tree has been a community effort.

Over the years, it has been supported by luncheon fundraisers, local organizations like rotary, contributions from area churches and even fire and police departments.

Her mission is clear: to ensure that no child is overlooked or left out during the holiday season.

“It continues to grow every year and it’s just been something that weighed on me for years before I started it but I just love to see, I just want children to enjoy the spirit of Christmas and have the fun of Christmas,” said Waldrup.

Every donation helps. For those with any questions you can contact Waldrup at McKenzie City Hall at 731-352-2292.
