State official visits Jackson to speak with local leaders

JACKSON, Tenn. — Local leaders gathered together in the Hub City as a state official came to speak with them.

Jim Bryson is the Commissioner of Finance and Administration for the state of Tennessee. Many local leaders including mayors, city council and county commission members, state representatives and many more came together to hear what he had to say. He began speaking a little bit about Jackson.

“Jackson’s on a roll. With the Great Wolf Lodge, and BlueOval, and — oh wow –Middle Fork Bottoms, and then you’ve got the whole airport that’s just exploding and is becoming a regional hub. The Jackson Regional Airport. It’s just going to be phenomenal,” said Commissioner Bryson.

Commissioner Bryson also spoke a lot about the budget process with the state of Tennessee. Particularly, he mentioned how tennessee has a AAA bond rating. Bryson told us what this means.

“Anytime that we want to go and get debt. We get it at low interest rates. So that’s really good for the state and that’s really good for our economic development. Being a AAA rated state allows us to serve other companies that come and and be able to help them in ways that we would not be able to if we had more interest on any bonding that we might have,” said Commissioner Bryson.

With many local leaders taking their time out to learn about how the state is doing, there must be some importance to an event like this.

“Coming here and being able to talk about how the budget is done and how we’re doing with the budget and how we’re managing the budget just makes Jackson a better place than it even is today. It allows them to know what’s going on in Nashville and have an influence on it,” said Commissioner Bryson.

While he was speaking to the local leaders, Commissioner Bryson said that he is proud of how Tennessee handles their budget process. This was the last event in 2024 for the Greater Jackson Chamber, the next one will be in January.
