WASHINGTON, D.C.–The sponsors of a bill being considered in congress are calling for action to protect kids online.

U.S. Republican Senator Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee and Democrat Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut took to the senate floor Wednesday…demanding immediate congressional action on the bipartisan ‘Kids Online Safety Act’ for a vote in the house before the end of the year.

Blumenthal and Blackburn are the lead sponsors of the bill which would provide kids and parents with better tools to protect themselves online, hold big tech accountable for harms to kids, and provide transparency into black box algorithms.

“And if we can get this passed in the remaining few days, what you will have is for the first time since 1998…there will be legislation passed to protect our children in the virtual space and provide safeguards for minors,” said Senator Blackburn.

The bill passed in the Senate in July with a 91-3 vote.
