City of Jackson cleaning up area known to be homeless encampment site
JACKSON, Tenn.–The city of Jackson is taking measures to clean up an area in north Jackson known to be the site of a homeless encampment.
According to Deputy Chief Tisdale of the Jackson Police Department, no one was charged or put into custody and they contacted Tennessee Homeless solutions for an alternative option for potential re-housing.
When WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News arrived on scene, it appeared there were people that had been living in this encampment, but no sign of them during the clean up process organized by the City of Jackson.
According to Tisdale, they were contacted by the city to be on scene during the clean-up …adding this property is city owned.
We reached out to the Communications Director with City of Jackson, Kenneth Cummings, who told us he doesn’t know of any homeless people living in the area.
“I was informed that there was no one at the camp site when they went to clean it. We begin search for them on Monday and get everyone signed up for housing that we can find…. that want housing,” said Amy McDonald, with Tennessee Home Solutions.
We reached out to Mayor Conger for a statement, but we have yet to hear back from him.
