Educator of the Week: Christy Evans
It’s time now to recognize our Educator of the Week, brought to you by the Tennessee Education Lottery.
Christy Evans is a kindergarten teacher at Westover Elementary School.
Evans credits her own kindergarten teacher, Miss Milam, as the inspiration behind this career choice.
“I just remember how special she was to me at that age, and so, as I got older and thought of an impact that I can make on children, I especially wanted to be able to teach kindergarten,” Evans said.
This is now Evans’ 5th year teaching, and she shares her favorite part of being an educator.
“Being with the children, getting to see them discover something new and learn something new, and just to see that click for them, opening up a whole new world for them,” said Evans.
Evans then took time to share her gratitude for the Hope Scholarship.
“It is such a wonderful opportunity for these children to, as they grow older, to further their education, and it gives everybody the chance to do that.”
Evans explains her approach to teaching.
“Obviously academics are so important in kindergarten, but I think for my students, to know that they are safe and they are comfortable here in my classroom is so important to me and that they are loved. I want them to know that I love them and I want what’s best for them.”
Evans reminds future educators of the importance of education.
“It can be a difficult profession at times, but just know that you are making such an impact on children’s lives, and that’s one of the most important things that we can do in our world today. It sounds cliché, but we are truly teaching the future, of our country and our world and it’s just, stick with it. Be dedicated to it and know that you’re truly doing this for the children and find your joy in that.”
Evans is now eligible for the Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month award.
