JACKSON, Tenn.–Even though Christmas is still a week away, you probably have your decorations up which might include a live Christmas tree.

Wednesday, members of the Jackson Fire Department demonstrated what could happen if you aren’t properly watering your live tree.

Sparks from candles, a fireplace, space heaters and even a frayed wire from a string of Christmas lights could catch your dried out live tree on fire.
Leaders with the fire department say taking care of your tree could prevent a house fire and even save the lives of your family members.

“We want to show how fast a fire can grow and how quickly it can go from just having a great time to it being one of the worst days of your life,” said Duane Seals, coordinator for the Jackson Fire Department.

Leaders with the Jackson Fire Department say this event is part of their ongoing effort to educate the community and reduce preventable fires during the holiday season.
