Bells police officer involved in crash after responding to call

PRESS RELEASE FROM CROCKETT COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT:

BELLS, Tenn. — According to the Crockett County Sheriff’s Department, around 6 p.m. Thursday night, a Bells police officer was involved in a crash after responding to a call.

Officials say the officer was responding to a domestic violence call — using lights and sirens — where the suspect had a weapon threatening to do harm to someone else. For reasons that are under investigation by the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the police car left the roadway striking a utility pole.

Law enforcement officers continued to the scene of the call while EMS and additional officers responded to the crash. The police officer was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital with what is believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

The Crockett County Sheriff’s Department reminds residents to please pull to the right for sirens and lights, be aware of your surroundings and know that there may be more than one officer responding to an emergency.

The Crockett County Sheriff’s Department also says that its thoughts are with the officer and they hope for a speedy recovery.
