100 Black Men of West Tennessee holds annual benefit gala
JACKSON, Tenn. — The 100 Black Men of West Tennessee organization held its annual benefit gala earlier Friday evening.
This formal event took place at the Carl Perkins Civic Center, where four young men received scholarship awards in the amount of $1,000 each.
The proceeds of this event will support the continued efforts of the organization’s mentorship and education programs, which prioritizes a positive impact on the lives of young people.
Their mentorship programs are designed to teach young men from 8th-12th grade valuable life lessons and key principles to help them succeed.
“Mentoring and mentorship is a very, very — it can be tedious, but it is certainly rewarding. So with our main mantra being ‘What they see is what they’ll be,’ we try to live up to that challenge,” said Jerry Woods, president of 100 Black Men of West Tennessee.
The mission of the 100 Black Men of America, incorporated is to improve the quality of life within their communities and enhance educational and economic opportunities for all African Americans.
