Thunder In Jackson, Mixed Bag Forecast Sunday Evening
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update
Today has the potential to be a doozy of a day. We have a chance for winter weather and severe weather across the Mid-South this afternoon into the evening hours. We have the details right here.
Severe Threat (1:00 PM – 8:00 PM):
The SPC has put out a Marginal Risk (1/5) for severe weather covering the southern half of West Tennessee. The main concern is damaging winds that could reach 60 mph. A tornado cannot be ruled out along the MS state line, but the chances have been dropping throughout the afternoon. The main line through Arkansas and Louisiana has not produced many warnings. Current Radar loops show that the main line of storms should miss West Tennessee to the south.
After The Storms:
Snow and possible freezing rain will filter in behind the front. Accumulations along and north of Highway 412 will be up to 1 inch, while south of 412 a light dusting to a quarter inch is possible. Little to no ice accumulation is expected with this system. Snow will move into the area between 3:00 AM-9:00 AM Monday morning. It will likely not be enough to get school closed. Behind the snow will be a strong Arctic air mass. Temperatures will be well below average for the season. Highs will likely stay below 40 degrees until Next Sunday at the earliest. Lows will be in the 10s for much of the first half of the week.
Final Thoughts:
It’s a fantastic week for soup and hot chocolate enjoyers. We will have another system come through the region on Friday. It is too early to tell whether it will be rain, snow, or ice; but all of the major models agree that something will be falling from the sky to end the week. Stay tuned in with us at Storm Team 7 as we track these two systems.
