Tips for making digital wellness a family priority

JACKSON, Tenn. — This holiday season, kids will get a lot of devices at a time when online safety continues to be more challenging. Here are expert tips to make digital wellness a family priority.

Have candid and open discussions with your kids and have them frequently.  Talk about who they’re interacting with online and what kind of content they’re coming in contact with.

“Setting a good example as parents with our own device usage is really, really important. Having some screen-free zones in the house to help promote that and set good examples for our kids,” said Dr. Scott Kollins, chief medical officer at Aura.

Be concrete about how much time kids can spend on their device or certain apps and what’s appropriate as far as behavior online. This conversation will need to be updated as kids grow.

Lastly, look for tech tools to help with efficiency like setting screen time limits or monitoring content.
