29 Hardeman County inmates celebrate life-changing achievements
WHITEVILLE, Tenn. — The final graduation ceremony of 2024 at Whiteville Correctional Facility (WCFA) celebrated the achievements of 29 inmates who earned life-changing credentials, including 9 HiSET/GED diplomas and 20 Industry Recognized Certificates (IRCs). This milestone marks a total of 246 inmate graduations at Whiteville last year.

In 2024, WCFA awarded 29 HiSET/GED diplomas—nearly doubling their annual goal of 15—and 217 IRCs, a significant increase from 68 certificates in 2023.
“Earning an educational credential is about more than a piece of paper; it symbolizes the promise of a new chapter—one where individuals can secure meaningful employment, support their families, and rebuild their standing in the community,” said James Bailey, WCFA Principal.
WCFA offers a robust slate of educational and vocational programs to prepare inmates for success beyond incarceration. Programs include Adult Basic Education and industry-specific training in fields such as Building Trades, Carpentry, Electrical, HVAC, and Construction Core. These courses provide practical skills and nationally recognized qualifications that pave the way for successful reintegration upon release.
