Dyer County Schools issues statement regarding lockdown
PRESS RELEASE FROM DYER COUNTY SCHOOLS:
DYER COUNTY, Tenn. — STATEMENT FROM DYER COUNTY SCHOOLS:
At approximately 12:01 p.m. on Tuesday, January 7, Newbern Elementary School was placed on a hard lockdown due to an off-campus investigation regarding a potential threat to school safety.
Law enforcement responded quickly and apprehended the suspect who made the alleged threat. The hard lockdown was then lifted and the school day proceeded as usual.
While we do not believe that students were in any danger, we acted out of an abundance of caution in instituting the hard lockdown.
We want to thank the Dyer County Sheriff’s Department and Newbern Police Department for their swift response and collaboration this afternoon. As always, the safety and well-being of our students and staff is our number one priority.
