Whiteville Police Dept. honors Sgt. Debbie Burkeen with Sea of Blue procession

WHITEVILLE, Tenn. — Another community takes the time to honor a longtime public servant in a special way.

Wednesday afternoon, the Whiteville Police Department held a Sea of Blue event in memory of retired Sgt. Debbie Burkeen who died January 3. The procession started at the Hardeman County CJC and ended in Whiteville.

Sgt. Burkeen dedicated 15 years of her life to the Whiteville Police Department and more than 20 years as a first responder and member of the Whiteville Fire Department. After retiring in 2017, Burkeen served for five years on the Whiteville City Council before her passing.

Her funeral is set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Bolivar.
