Educator of the Week: Amber Schultz

It’s time now to recognize our Educator of the Week, brought to you by the Tennessee Education Lottery.

Amber Schultz is a kindergarten teacher at Alamo City School.

She was inspired to pursue education by her own Kindergarten teacher.

“She made my Kindergarten year magical for me,” Schultz said. “It’s something that, even now I’m 30, that I still remember and I knew, from then on, that I wanted to be just like her, and so, I loved children and I really fit in the Kindergarten role and I wanted to be for them what she was for me and to inspire the next generation.”

Schultz has now been teaching for three years.

“My favorite part of teaching is seeing the kids get things that they think that they don’t know, seeing those light bulbs go off, building those relationships with them,” said Schultz. “I’m lucky enough that I get to come in when they’ve never been to school before, and I always tell people that I feel like my role is to make them fall in love with education, because they’re gonna be here for twelve years, so my goal is to make sure that they love school.”

Schultz shares a word of encouragement to those considering a career in education.

“If it is truly what your heart wants, do not let other things hold you back from it. If you really love the kids, you love education, then that’s where you need to be and we need you to get them ready too.”

Schultz was surprised by her nomination.

“I’m one hundred percent shocked, because I had no idea that this was even coming, so I’m so honored and I’m so thrilled.”

Schultz is now eligible for the Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month award.
