Madison Co. Highway Dept. talks snow removal process following winter storm

MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. — To address the winter storm’s challenges, the Madison County Highway Department implemented a comprehensive response plan.

The department initiated a snow plow plan early last week amid winter weather advisories.

According to Highway Director Bart Walls, this year, the snow was easier to clean up due to the consistent temperatures in the uppers 20’s to the lower 30’s. The lack of sleet and ice before snowfall accelerated the melting process, with the help of the sun on Saturday morning to clear the roads up.

“Approximately 5 a.m. Friday morning we mobilized crews and actually got them out on the road at about 6 a.m. We utilized four snow plows throughout the county in two separate shifts and we plowed roads from approximately 6am to 6:30 pm friday,” said Walls.

This is the second time the Madison County Highway Department has utilized their snow plow equipment since receiving it two years ago.
