City Council to decide what will be funded in bond requests
JACKSON, Tennessee — The Jackson City Council now has the task of deciding what will be funded in the bond requests that have been discussed for several months now. WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News Reporter Ryan Hodges sat down with some council members ahead of the decision.
Thursday afternoon, the City Council is holding a work session at their regular meeting location. For the first time, they will discuss exact items that they want to fund.
“I think what you’ll see is we’ll actually come together and more than likely borrow $26 million, because that’s what we voted on. So where do we prioritize that money,” said Councilman JP Stovall.
Councilman Stovall mentioned $26 million. This was brought before the Council as an amount of up to $36 million. Councilwoman Marda Wallace bought forth an amendment at January’s Council meeting to reduce it to the $26 million amount that was later approved by the Council.
“I just knew that we were capable of funding the things that we need to do with the $26 million,” Councilwoman Wallace said.

This will be the first time the Council will meet in front of the public to hopefully discuss what specific items need to be funded.
From multiple council members that we have spoken to, making improvements to the roads is one of the main priorities.
Councilwoman Wallace told us what she is expecting from Thursday’s meeting.
“I really hope that we’re going to come together,” said Wallace. “That it’s not one person against another person. We’ve got to do what is the best for Jackson. That means all 10 of us working together, understanding each other.”
Whatever the Council decides to fund and the amount that it will cost will be all but final. They cannot go back and add more once it is turned in.
We will certainly bring you updates when decisions are made and what is discussed at the work session.
