Jackson selected to be part of ‘4 Minute City’ program
JACKSON, Tenn. — The City of Jackson and Friends of Heart are partnering with Avive Solutions to significantly increase survival rates from sudden cardiac arrest in Jackson through a program called “4 Minute City.”
This program places Avive Connect AEDs into the hands of a network of CPR-trained citizen volunteers.
Those volunteers are then able to be alerted by 9-1-1 through their AED and dispatched to a nearby emergency via map. Jackson has a current 5% survival rate for sudden cardiac arrest and the hope is to improve that percentage.
“After that first four minutes of somebody going into cardiac arrest, if they don’t get CPR and an AED then their chances of survival decrease so drastically,” said Melissa Nelson, community risk reduction specialist for the Jackson Fire Department.
Jackson was selected as 1 of only 5 U.S. cities to implement this innovative program.
