JMCSS issues statement following shooting near Northeast Middle
UPDATE (1/17/25): More details emerge in shooting that led authorities to Northeast Middle
JACKSON, Tenn. — The Jackson-Madison County School System has issued a statement following a shooting that occurred near Northeast Middle School.
Around 3:45 p.m. Thursday, we received several calls from our WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News tipsters regarding a heavy police presence at Northeast Middle.
When we arrived to Northeast Middle, we noticed several first responders working on scene, including emergency medical services.
Officials with JMCSS say this incident occurred near I-40 and Christmasville Road. A vehicle involved in the shooting then pulled into the parking lot of Northeast Middle School.

Dear JMCSS Families, We want to inform you about an off-campus incident that has led to the cancellation of all after-school activities scheduled for today at Northeast Middle School.
Local law enforcement is currently investigating a shooting that occurred near I-40 and Christmasville Road. A vehicle involved in the incident, which included a family from our district, pulled into the Northeast Middle School parking lot. Emergency responders provided care to an individual from the vehicle at the scene, and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office is gathering additional information at this time.
While there is no ongoing threat to students or staff, out of an abundance of caution, we have canceled all after-school events at the school for the safety and well-being of everyone involved.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this time.
