Educator of the Week: Lindsey Lindsay
It’s time now to recognize our Educator of the Week, brought to you by the Tennessee Education Lottery.
Lindsey Lindsay is a 5th grade math teacher at West Carroll Elementary School.
“I always wanted to be a teacher, probably since kindergarten, just because I had such great teachers along the way,” Lindsay said. “Of course, I changed my mind here and there but, eventually, I had to go back to teaching.”
Lindsay has now been teaching for seven years.
“I have always loved learning. School has been, I don’t want to say my safe place, but just, you know, my fun, my happy, my cozy place, so I just wanted to instill that in other students as well,” said Lindsay.
Lindsay describes teaching as her passion, and shares the best part of her career choice.
“My favorite part about teaching is just making these connections with these kids, letting them know that they have a comfortable place to be when they’re not at home, and that this is definitely their second home, because we’re here all the time,” she said.
Lindsay strives to create a welcoming atmosphere for her students.
“I do want the kids to be comfortable coming and sharing at the board, I do like when they share their answers with me, because they do show those vulnerable moments, and, especially in math, that can be very hard.”
For future educators, Lindsay offers some encouragement.
“Just take it one day at a time. It can be difficult, there are hard days, but the good definitely outweigh the bad. And these kids, they need us. They’re so worth it.”
Lindsay shares that watching students grow and learn makes her heart happy. She hopes to stay right where she is for years to come.
“This is my home. This is not just a job, it’s my home. I very much enjoy working here and I’m very blessed that this has been my first job.”
Lindsay is now eligible for the Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month award.
