Milan Special School District welcomes new director
MILAN, Tenn. — One local school system is getting a new school director.
Dr. Versie Hamlett took over over as Director of Schools January 2 of this year, after a 6-1 vote by the Milan School Board. Hamlett comes to Milan from the Fayette County School System, where she had served as superintendent since October of 2020.
She previously served as superintendent for Humboldt City Schools from May of 2014 to June of 2020, when she moved to Fayette County Schools.
“I want them to know I am student-centered. You know all the decisions that I make in this office will be about their child, and I do have an open door policy and so I welcome parents to come in and share about what their expectations are for their students and any concerns they may have. And that is my job, to make sure that every student has an opportunity to succeed,” said Dr. Hamlett.
The board voted to enter into contract negotiations with Hamlett with the goal of her taking over the position from Interim Director of Schools, Jackie Hopper.
