Chipping of the Greens returns to Jackson

JACKSON, Tenn.—One local event returns to help residents say goodbye to their holiday trees.

The annual Chipping of the Greens was held this morning in Jackson.

The event hosted by the City of Jackson and Keep Jackson Beautiful takes holiday trees and recycles them into mulch.

Trees could be dropped off at three separate locations across Jackson, including North Park, Liberty Garden, or Malesus Park.

The only requirements for the tree drop-offs are no remaining decorations allowed and no artificial trees.

Residents could also call to have their trees picked up.

“I feel like it is a great process. I think next year we will do something a little different to make sure that we have several locations that people can come and actually pick up the chippings,” said Derek Marshall, Jr., City of Jackson staff.

Today at 9:30 in the morning, the trees collected from various locations were transported to the TN Fire Training Center site to be mulched.

That mulch is available to the public for free on a first come first serve basis.

Chipping of the Greens is an annual event and great way to repurpose holiday trees.
