Bond set at $500,000 for man facing child abuse charge after death of 3-year-old

JACKSON, Tenn. — We have an update regarding the death of a three-year-old that occurred earlier this week.

On Wednesday, January 22, the Jackson Police Department responded to a call of an unresponsive three-year-old male at an apartment complex located at 550 Old Hickory Boulevard.

Upon arrival, officers discovered three-year-old Brylan Greer on the living room floor. When fire and EMS arrived on the scene, they attempted to resuscitate the child with no success. He was then transported to the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Investigators spoke with the child’s mother, Natyia Greer, who claimed she left the home to run errands around 7:45 a.m. and, at the time, Brylan was fine with no injuries. Brylan was left in the care of her boyfriend, 23-year-old Judon Roberson.

Roberson told investigators that Brylan had a bowel movement accident and he gave him a bath. He then stepped away to take a phone call and when he returned, Brylan was drowning. According to his statement, Roberson then got the child out of the bathtub and proceeded to dry him off with a hair dryer.

Afterwards, he laid the child in bed and went to sleep himself. When speaking to the investigators, Roberson described the child as having a limp body but claimed that he was alert.

When Natyia arrived home around 8:50 a.m., she noticed her child in his bed, and thought he was asleep. Around 12:30 p.m., she attempted to wake Brylan and discovered that he was unresponsive and contacted the police.

Natyia also noticed that the child had injuries to the left side of his neck and back of his left ear that were not visible when she left home. An autopsy has been ordered for the child and is pending.

Roberson appeared in Jackson City Court Friday morning for arraignment and is being charged with aggravated child abuse or neglect.

His bond was set at $500,000 and he will appear in court again February 5 at 9:30 a.m.

This investigation is still ongoing. If you have information regarding this incident, contact the Jackson Police Department at 731-425-8400.
