City leaders meet for agenda review, mayor gives update on men’s homeless shelter

JACKSON, Tenn. — Earlier Thursday afternoon, Jackson city leaders held an agenda review work session.

Leaders discussed agenda items leading up to next week’s city council meeting such as camera surveillance equipment offered to the new animal shelter, grants for new equipment and paving machines.

Prior to the meeting, Mayor Scott Conger hosted a livestream on his Facebook page. One resident asked him for an update regarding the men’s homeless shelter.

Mayor Scott Conger shared that the Airways Motel will not happen for the proposed shelter due to number of repairs that would need to be made.

“Regardless even if we were to buy the Airways Motel, they have the contract to manage it. So this is going to change a little bit because we’re going to essentially provide a little a donation to TN Homeless Solutions. They will purchase — they will own the building, they will run the facility and so the City of Jackson government will be out of that,” said Mayor Conger.
