A community gathers to pray for a peaceful city
JACKSON, Tenn.—A community gathers for one common goal, to pray for the city.
City leaders, residents, church families, and friends join together in prayer Sunday. The prayer gathering called upon anyone willing to participate to meet at 4 in the afternoon at City Hall.
The event was coordinated as an effort to pray for not only the City of Jackson, but its residents and leaders, to fight for a common goal ‘to get violence off the streets.’
The prayer gathering was created with help from Vice Mayor Johnny Dodd and leaders in the faith community, who say the City of Jackson is in need of healing.
“The best strategy that we could think of was prayer. We wanted to make sure that our city is united, that our city understands that we care and we want to make sure that we cover every family, every child, our leaders, our first responders, our youth, so this was a day for people of all walks of life,” said Pastor Rhonda Pettigrew.
Residents were asked to put aside differences and take part in this time of prayer and reflection.
The time was also used to mourn those who have lost their lives and seek guidance for a path forward.
