More than a third of women are behind on health screenings, survey reveals

JACKSON, Tenn. — Heart Disease Awareness Month is observed in February in the United States. This month is dedicated to raising awareness about heart disease, the leading cause of death in the country, and promoting healthy habits to prevent heart disease.

A new survey of 2,000 women by Doctor’s Best, reveals that more than a third of women are skipping a beat as they are behind on their screenings and doctor’s appointments with anxiety being their number one reason for not doing so.

“We often associate heart attack symptoms as crushing chest pain or an elephant sitting on our chest, and that’s true for men – but in women it’s different. You can have symptoms of acid reflux, dizziness, light-headedness, neck pain, jaw pain, or shoulder pain. So the first thing we need to do is educate and make sure that women are aware that symptoms of a heart attack are different in men and in women,” said Dr. Elliott.

By participating in Heart Disease Awareness Month, individuals can take steps to improve their heart health and reduce their risk of this serious disease.
