Thomas Eugene Armstrong
Thomas was a graduate of Dyersburg High School and worked at Dyersburg Fabrics in his early years before joining the United States Air Force. Upon completing his service to our country, he successfully completed pipefitting trade school with Union Carbide in Oak Ridge, TN and then moved to Newport News, VA. He worked at the shipyard as a pipe fitter and received his journeyman’s license. He then became a certified maintenance professional at Phillip Morris in Richmond, VA where he worked for 22 years before retiring. After his retirement he returned to his hometown of Dyersburg, TN, where he began his second career on the golf course. Thomas performed many successful “surgeries” and “big deals” on the golf course. Thomas was a member of the NAACP, the Golf Association and the Commander at the American Legion, Post 191. He was also known to give generously and actively support various other organizations in the community.
Thomas met and married Debra Armstrong (Mitchell), the love of his life and was together for 49 years. He has three sons, Thomas Armstrong Jr (Shalena) of Spokane, WA, Adrian Armstrong (Lynette) of Richmond, VA and Cedric Dennis (Cnanah) of Dyersburg, TN; two daughters, Demetria Armstrong (preceded in death) and Tammy Jennings of Madison, WI. His siblings included Joe Lee Armstrong Jr, Barbara Armstrong, Carolyn Johnson and Billy Green (Bertha) all of Rayville, LA, Ronald Armstrong (Denita) of Clarksville, TN, Mary Williams of Monroe, LA, Freddie Armstrong of Memphis, TN, Albert Armstrong (Jeanette), Vernon Armstrong, Darren Armstrong, Sherry Armstrong, Paige Armstrong and Leola Armstrong-Scott (Rev. Joe Scott) all of Dyersburg, TN. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents Joe Lee Armstrong Sr and Shirley Mae Armstrong; sisters Jackie Mason-Armstrong, Dorothy Armstrong; Bobbie Jean Jones; brother Phillip Armstrong and Willie James Armstrong; his mother-in-law Sally Mitchell. Thomas is survived by (11) grandchildren, (4) great- grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends that became family.
