Storm Chances Tonight, Warm Start to the Our Thursday, Cooler Friday
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:
An interesting storm set up will develop tonight between 2-6am Thursday morning into Kentucky and partially into West Tennessee as well. The most likely places in our area to be impacted by a possible tornado or severe storm will be Weakley, Henry, northern Carroll and Benton counties. If you are in those counties listed please keep the ringers up for emergencies on your phones tonight. Although chances are only 2% for a tornado in your county, the chance still exists. Chief meteorologist Joel Barnes will be in the weather center and Moe will join him in the morning before the storm threat begins.

After last week’s rain, many rivers and creeks are still running high across the Mid South. The Obion river is running the highest in West Tennessee and will remain in minor flood stage for a few days. The water is expected to crest in Obion tonight before slowly dropping as the water heads down stream. If we get more heavy rain in that area this week, the situation could be more serious. But as of now, just some minor flooding is occurring at this time.

THIS WEEK:
We started out the week with back to back 70s for Sunday and Monday in West Tennessee. Temperatures fell just short of the record both days but even warmer weather is expected a couple different times this week before a return to winter looks to be coming next week. A stalled out front will drift back and forth across West Tennessee this week making for some warm days, some cooler days and chances for rain and a few storms in the forecast most days this week.

The stalled out front will lifted back to the north of us on Wednesday allowing temperatures to make it back up into the low 70s. We did fall short of record highs on Wednesday but it will be a warm and humid night. As the front lifts, some showers and a few weak storms developed along the boundary in the late morning and afternoon hours. It is tough to tell when and who is most likely to see the rain and storms tonight but some showers are expected in to move in as the night goes on here in West Tennessee.

The storm prediction center has added areas in West Tennessee from Jackson to the north and east to a marginal risk (1/5) for severe storms. Some gusty winds will be the main threat but a tornado or two cannot be ruled out either as there will be a chance for some weak supercells to develop in the warm sector. The greatest chance for a strong storm or two will be in our northern counties after the sun goes down and into the early morning hours on Thursday (11pm to 5am seems to be the main concern as of now). Expect another mostly cloudy night and the winds will move back to the south as the night goes on. Wednesday night lows will only fall down to the mid 60s due to the high humidity.

Thursday will be a warm and humid day with temperatures reaching the mid 70s. The record on Thursday is 74° and could be broken or tied. We are still expecting a mostly cloudy day and there will be some chances for showers and weak storms again depending on how far north the stalled out front makes it in the morning. The front will again push through in the evening hours cooling us down a bit on Friday. Thursday night lows will fall back into the upper 40s as the front will move back through by Friday morning. The winds will change again back to the northeast on Friday as most of West Tennessee will be sitting north of the stalled out front. Friday highs will reach the low 60s and there again could be a few showers as the front will lift back through we think Friday evening making for a very warm and humid start to our weekend. Friday night lows will fall down to the upper 50s. The clouds will stick around most of the day on Friday and last into the weekend.

THE WEEKEND:
The warmest weather since the beginning of November could be returning on Saturday and we could be close to setting more high temperature records. The record on Saturday is 77° and that is the current forecast as of now. Highs could hit the 80° mark for some of us on Saturday before a late night front will usher in a return of winter on Sunday that will likely last into most of next week. There will be some showers and storms late on Saturday that will last into the day on Sunday. Some of the storms could be strong but we are not quite sure about the severe weather threat yet but it is something we are going to be watching closely as the week goes on. Expect the clouds to stick around most of the weekend. The winds will come out of the southwest on Saturday but turn back to the north on Sunday behind Saturday night’s cold front. Saturday night lows will drop to the low 40s, Sunday highs will only make it up to around 50° and Sunday night lows will fall all the way down to the low to mid 30s. Winter is coming back next week and we cannot rule out a chance for some ice or snow as well but it is too early to make any forecast with confidence in that as of now.
