Bakery spotlights West TN native, Chiefs player Trey Smith ahead of Super Bowl
JACKSON, Tenn. — A local bakery is showing all the love to a hometown celebrity ahead of Super Bowl Sunday.
For the third year now, Two Sisters Bakery has gotten the chance to spotlight a Super Bowl champion at their pastry shop. And no, not with an autograph or a signed jersey — with cookies!
“It’s exciting to see everybody get excited over Trey Smith cookies,” said Melanie Thornton, co-owner of Two Sisters Bakery.
Yes, Trey Smith, USJ native, Vols alumni, and two-time Super Bowl champion for the Kansas City Chiefs — who is headed to New Orleans to play for the third time in the championship game this Sunday.
“Everybody loved them. They’re a big hit and we stay super busy trying to keep them decorated and out in the cases. We’ve sold out the past two years,” said Thornton.
Jersey cookies, football cookies, you name it! The bakery has a wide variety of sweets to support Smith and the Chiefs ahead of the big game.
“We’ve got a lot of talent that has come out of West Tennessee. Anytime one of our kids from local schools accomplishes big things like this, we try to support them,” said Thornton.
A football fan herself, co-owner Melanie Thornton says she’ll be cheering on the Chiefs.
“Well, I have two boys. So, one played basketball and one played football and my oldest that played football, he was on the offensive line like Trey, so yeah, I know a little bit about it,” said Thornton.
And it’s not just the bakery who will be cheering on Smith, his hometown mayor also shared a message:
“We are very proud to have Trey Smith be from Three-Way Tennessee and he’s already won two Super Bowls in a row and we are rooting for him to win the third one,” said Three Way Mayor David Turner.
For those who wish to purchase cookies ahead of any Super Bowl parties, the bakery is open Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
