WBBJ 7 Forecast Update

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:

The cold front has now passed south of all of West Tennessee. Temperatures will be about 20° cooler on Friday than they were today, but the cool down will be short lived. The front will push back to the north as a warm front again on Saturday bringing in around round of 70s before finally some winter like weather will return on Sunday into next week. Showers will accompany the front Saturday evening as it moves through. Catch the latest details on the potential winter storm next week coming up here.

After last week’s rain, many rivers and creeks are still running high across the Mid South. The Obion river is running the highest in West Tennessee and will remain in minor flood stage for a few days. The water is expected to crest in Obion tonight before slowly dropping as the water heads down stream. If we get more heavy rain in that area this week, the situation could be more serious. But as of now, just some minor flooding is occurring at this time.

THIS WEEK:

The storm prediction center has added areas in West Tennessee from Jackson to the east to a marginal risk (1/5) for severe storms this evening and tonight as the next cold front moves through. Some gusty winds will be the main threat but a tornado or two cannot be ruled out either east of the Tennessee River as there will be a chance for some weak supercells to develop in the warm sector. The greatest chance for a strong storm or two will be in our eastern counties after the sun goes down and before 1opm. Expect another cloudy night and the winds will move back to the north as the night goes on behind the cold front. Thursday night lows will  fall down to the mid 40s due to the high lower humidity and cooler air behind the front.

Thursday was a warm and humid day with temperatures reaching the mid 70s. The record on Thursday is 74° and fell a little short. We also saw a mostly cloudy day and there were some early day showers and weak storms again along the stalled out front in the morning. The front again pushed through in the evening hours cooling us down a bit into the day on Friday. Thursday night lows will fall back into the upper 40s as the front will move back through by Friday morning. The winds will change again back to the northeast on Friday as most of West Tennessee will be sitting north of the stalled out front. Friday highs will reach the low 50s and there again could be a few showers as the front will lift back through Friday night making for a very warm and humid start to our weekend. Friday night lows will fall down to the upper 40s. The clouds will stick around most of the day on Friday and last into the weekend.

THE WEEKEND:

The warmest weather since the beginning of November could be returning on Saturday and we could be close to setting more high temperature records. The record on Saturday is 77° and we will likely fall just short. Highs could hit the mid 70s for some of us on Saturday before a late night front will usher in a return of winter on Sunday that will likely last into most of next week. There will be some showers and storms late on Saturday that will last into the day on Sunday. Some of the storms could be strong but we are not quite sure about the severe weather threat yet but it is something we are going to be watching closely over the weekend. Expect the clouds to stick around most of the weekend. The winds will come out of the southwest on Saturday but turn back to the north on Sunday behind Saturday night’s cold front. Saturday night lows will drop to the low 40s, Sunday highs will only make it up to around 50° and Sunday night lows will fall all the way down to the low to mid 30s. Winter is coming back next week and we cannot rule out a chance for some ice or snow as well but it is too early to make any forecast with confidence in that as of now.
