Frances Replogle Bynum Baker
February 14, 1931 – February 11, 2025
Frances was born in Madison County, TN on February 14, 1931, the daughter of the late Thomas A. and Nora Burns Replogle. She married Elmo Murray Bynum in 1951 who preceded her in death in 1988. Murray was the father of her two children, Diane and John. Later she married John William (Bill) Baker in 1991.
Frances graduated from Jackson High School in 1949. She operated a Day Care Center from her home for 27 ½ years. In this time, she cared for several children with as many as seven in her home at one time. Her influence was felt in many of their lives for years to come. Prior to starting her Day Care Center, she did office work for fifteen years.
Frances was a faithful member of the Bemis Pentecostal Church and for some years at Lighthouse United Pentecostal Church. She taught Sunday School classes for over 30 years in various departments from beginner to junior high. She started singing alto with the Harmony Girls Trio on August 14, 1949 and continued for over 56 years. They sang at Camp Meetings, special occasions in different churches, and for special events in the city and county. She loved the lord, her church, and her family.
Frances enjoyed traveling, having been to all 50 states of the United States and all Provinces of Canada. She was privileged to go to Ireland, Golan Heights, Sea of Galilee, Lebanon, Syria, Damascus, The Holy Land, and Cancun, Mexico.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Albert and Nora Burns Replogle; two brothers, Thomas Replogle and Homer Gene (Ruby).
She is survived by her two children, Diane Kay Bynum Shelby (Paulus P. Shelby, Jr.) and John David Bynum (Dawn); six grandchildren, Rebekah Rae Shelby, Lauren Marie Bynum LaPrade (Chris), David Carl Bynum (Kristin), Nathan John Bynum (Markie), Amber Nichole Bynum Thomas (Robin) and Caitlin Dawn Bynum Smith (Austin); and six great grandchildren.
She is also survived by three stepsons, John William Baker, Jr. (Seone), David Thomas Baker (Barbara), and Michael Lee Baker; five step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren.
A service to celebrate the life of Frances Replogle Bynum Baker will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 1:00 pm from the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons with entombment following in Highland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends beginning at 11 a.m., two hours prior to the service.
