Hub City residents react to morning earthquake
JACKSON, Tenn. — An earthquake struck the region earlier today, with tremors felt throughout the area.
According to the United States Geographical Survey, Madison County experienced a 2.6 earthquake northeast of Jackson.
We spoke to one resident who was close to the epicenter when it occurred.
“Probably around 10:30 this morning, we heard a loud boom,” said Sara. “I didn’t really necessarily feel it, but immediately I got a text from one of my coworkers out in Jackson, and he had felt something too and wanted to know where all we were.”
Several West Tennesseans shared their reactions under our Facebook post. One person stated they heard a loud boom and could feel their house shake.
“Oh yeah, it’s so surprising in Jackson to have an earthquake of that magnitude, for people to actually feel it, so that’s exciting but also scary at the same time, you know, because a lot of people never really experienced earthquakes,” said Ashley Davis.
There were also several residents who were unaware of the earthquake.
“I am surprised by the whole thing, actually,” said Christian Maholmes. “Gladly I didn’t feel it, I would’ve been scared for my life.”
According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, there have been no reports of injuries or significant damage.
