Severe Storms Out, Winter Storm In

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update

West Tennessee will finish the 4 seasons in 4 days challenge on Tuesday when a Winter Storm Watch will take effect and last through noon Wednesday. Some models are hinting at several inches of snow, others not so much. We have the details right here.

Last Night (Sat.):

Severe weather impacted parts of Northwest Tennessee with several reports of hail, damage, and dangerous flash flooding. Trees are down in parts of northern Gibson County as we are awaiting the official survey from NWS Memphis. A rare Flash Flood Emergency was issued for Rives in Obion County due to a levee failure. Several viewers from across West Tennessee have sent us their pictures of hailstones that fell near them yesterday, with most appearing to be nickel to quarter in size, but as big as ping pong ball on the larger side.

Sunday-Monday:

Temperatures will be cold, only getting as high as the low 40s during the warmest part of the day. Winds will be light and out of the north. Overnight lows will drop into the mid to low 20s as another cold front prepares to move through West Tennessee. The weather will remain fair.

Tuesday-Wednesday:

Our next big chance for snow will move in Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. The National Weather Service has already issued a Winter Storm Watch, meaning conditions will be favorable for snow to accumulate at least 2 inches. Snow ratios will be high, meaning this will likely be powdery snow, rather than crunchy snow. The alert takes effect on Tuesday at noon and will go through Wednesday at noon. The official forecast from us is 2-5 inches, with the higher totals being north of Jackson.

Final Thoughts:

Stay warm as winter returns to West Tennessee this week. Especially stay aware if you were already affected by Saturday’s severe storms. We’ll be posting updates on the forecast frequently up to the event.
