WBBJ 7 Forecast Update

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:

10PM Update:

Heavy snow showers are falling across most of West Tennessee as of 930pm. There are some reports of sleet mixing in, mostly in our southern counties. This will likely keep the snow totals near the Mississippi border lower than near the Kentucky border as was forecast. We are still expecting between 1-3″ in Hardin County and 3-6″ in Obion county. We will likely be in the 2-4″ range still along and around I-40. Be prepared for a wind chill as low as -5° Thursday morning as well.

Are you ready for the next round of snow? It is on the way and will be moving into West Tennessee early this evening. Snow totals are still expected to be the highest in our northwest counties and lowest in our southeast counties. Some folks could end up with 6″ of snow and some areas could see as little as 1″. On average, I would expect around 3-4″ for most of us by the time the sun comes up Wednesday morning. We might see a brief period of sleet or freezing rain but it looks like a “mostly” snow event for us in West Tennessee.  Once the snow wraps up, the cold will settle in with single digit temperatures and wind chills near 0° Wednesday night. THIS WEEK:

The snow will move in during the late afternoon hours across the Mississippi River before starting close to sunset in the Jackson area. The snow bands will move west to east and drop to the south as the evening goes on. Everyone will be seeing snow between 10pm and 2am in West Tennessee. The highest snow amounts are expected to be in our northern counties near Kentucky with the lowest amounts expected to be near the Mississippi border. The show should wrap up by the time the sun comes up on Wednesday.

Temperatures are going to get cold quickly as the system moves in Tuesday night. Tuesday night lows will fall to around 20°. That is we are not expecting much in the way of ice and sleet, but there will be some that will mix in towards the beginning of the event. Wednesday highs will be chilly and only reach the upper 20s before falling all the way down to the upper single digits Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Clouds will stick around during the day but should break up overnight into Thursday morning. The winds will stay out of the north until the weekend.

Thursday we should see some sunshine but it is going to be a VERY cold day! Highs will only reach the low 20s and we will start our day in the single digits and end our day back in the single digits to start our Friday. Friday highs will warm up a bit into the low to mid 30s and that could lead to a little bit of snow melting. Snow will be melting through this weekend for most of us. We still will see plenty of sunshine on Friday but some clouds will try to move back in this weekend keeping Friday night’s low up a bit around 20°.

THE WEEKEND:

Warmer weather will move back in for the weekend and that will allow for the snow to melt across the area. Highs will reach the mid to upper 40s this weekend. Saturday night will drop to the upper 20s and Sunday night might even stay a few degrees above freezing. We could be back up closer to 60° on Monday of next week. We will see partly cloudy skies this weekend due to the slight increase in humidity and a return of the west and southwest winds. The winds will stay out of the southwest to kick off next week!
