Warming shelter to reopen in the Hub City amid winter storm

JACKSON, Tenn. — As the temperatures begin to drop, the Hub City has resources for those who need a safe place to go.

Jackson city officials and other organizations have partnered together to provide a place for those who may not have shelter during these next couple of days.

“So this city is partnering with Tennessee Homeless Solutions, Area Relief Ministries, RIFA, West Tennessee Healthcare Community Foundation to offer a cold weather shelter for the upcoming weather this week,” said Claire Pierson, community development coordinator for the City of Jackson.

The warming center will only have space for 30 people, however, it opens its doors to children women and men. For those who are looking for shelter on Wednesday and Thursday there will be differing locations.

“So on Tuesday night and Thursday night we will be partnering with Area Relief Ministries’ Room In the Inn program. So, men that would like to be sheltered should meet at the Area Relief Ministries offices on South Church Street between 3:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. to be signed up for that on Wednesday. Anyone that needs shelter can meet at First United Methodist Church at the mission center,” said Pierson.

For those who may want to help out with food or clothing donations, here is how you can help.

“Community members can donate through the Hope and Healing Foundation to the emergency shelter fund. As well as donating non perishable foods to RIFA and things like t-shirts, sweatpants and socks can be dropped off to First United Methodist Mission Center,” said Pierson.
