Edward William Hoover, age 86, passed away on February 15, 2025 at his home in Huntsville, AL.

Ed was born on January 15, 1939 in Harrisburg, PA, the son of the late Floyd W. Hoover and Catharine Melhorn Hoover. He grew up in the small community of Zions View in York County PA.

Ed earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Millersville State College and his Masters degree from West Virginia University. He served at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio in the foreign technology division. He was a math and physics aficionado and taught in high schools in Pennsylvania and West Virginia early in his career. Later he worked at Defense Mapping Agency in the Washington DC area. In the 80’s he moved his small family to Huntsville, AL where he worked as a programmer for Intergraph and Ternion until he retired.

In his free time Ed spent much time helping at a women’s shelter and working on cars as well as one of his favorite pastimes – jogging. After retirement Ed enjoyed ballroom dancing, cutting trees and chopping firewood as well as eating out with his friends. He had a great sense of humor and was always cracking a joke.

He was preceded in death by his sister Ethel Quickel and his brother Rich Hoover. He is survived by his daughter, Beth Hoover Jamison and her husband Matthew of Jackson, TN and their children, Stephen and Sarah Jamison; and his nephews Rick Hoover and wife Pam, and Hanson Quickel.

A graveside service will be held at Ridgecrest Cemetery in Jackson,TN on Tuesday, February 25 at 10:00 am with the Rev. John W. Jamison officiating. A memorial service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Huntsville, AL on March 7 at 11am.
