Record High Set on Wednesday, Mostly Dry Cold Front Coming by Overnight!

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:

Back to back years on February 26th we have set the high temperature record in Jackson. Last year we hit 77°, this year we hit 79°. It was the warmest day in West Tennessee since November 5th (over 100 days ago). A cold front will pass by tonight that will bring a few showers with it and maybe a rumble of thunder.

Most of us will not see any rain at all but we will all see about a 15° temperature drop into the day on Thursday. Temperatures will cool down even more into the weekend too. There is a shot for severe weather also coming back early next week and we will have the latest on what you can expect coming up here.

Five planets will be visible to the naked eye Friday evening, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. Mercury will be in the constellation Aquarius, near the sun and just above the western horizon. Saturn will also be near the sun and low in the horizon, making it harder to spot. To see Uranus and Neptune, you’ll need a telescope. Uranus will appear in the Aries constellation, and Neptune will be in Pisces. The display will only be visible for a few minutes after sunset, because the planets near the horizon, Saturn and Mercury will be setting. For the best view, head to a location with minimal light pollution and a clear view of the horizon. We are expecting clear skies Friday evening in West Tennessee, so go check it out, and if you have a telescope, be sure to break it out as well!

THIS WEEK:

After a very cold week last week, warmer weather moved in on Monday and will be sticking around for the most part during the work week. Highs made it up into the low 60s on Monday but topped out into the 70s in the middle of the week. There will be a few chances for showers in the forecast but overall we are going to be dry most of the week. There appears to be another concern for severe weather in the forecast, but that will not be here until early next week. So we will keep an eye on it as the week progresses.

Some clouds will move through tonight as a weak and mostly dry front is approaching us from the northwest. The winds will come out of the northwest tonight behind the front. Our overnight lows will fall down to the mid to upper 40s. Those overnight clouds should decrease quickly into Thursday morning. Tuesday was one of the nicest days we have had so far in 2025 and Wednesday was even nicer. We have not seen weather this nice since the beginning of November.  As of Wednesday, Spring was 22 days away and will kick off March 20th, but it sure felt spring like on Wednesday.

The warmest day in the forecast this week was Wednesday. Highs reached the mid to upper 70s on Wednesday. The record high on Wednesday was 77° but it is now 79°. The next front will be coming by Wednesday night into Thursday morning. The front looks like a mostly dry front but there will be some isolated showers between midnight and 6am Thursday morning as the front moves through. The winds on Wednesday came out of the southwest before moving back to the northwest on Thursday behind the front. The rain chances should be done by sunrise Thursday.

Temperatures will be a little cooler on Thursday behind the early morning cold front. Thursday morning lows will start out in the mid to upper 40s but highs will still reach the low to mid 60s, about 10-15° cooler than on Wednesday. Thursday night will be the coldest night so far this week with morning lows back down to the mid 30s Friday morning. We should stay above freezing but with the clear skies and calm winds, it will be a bit chilly to kick off our Friday. Friday afternoon we will warm up nicely though with highs back into the mid to upper 60s. Expect a sunny day on Friday and the sunshine will continue to kick off the weekend. The winds will be back to the southwest Friday afternoon and Friday night lows will drop down to the mid 40s to kick off the weekend.

THE WEEKEND:

Overall the weekend is going to be a bit chilly but dry in West Tennessee. Saturday will be warmer than Sunday as another week and mostly dry front will pass by during the day on Saturday. There will be some clouds this weekend but we are expecting mostly sunny skies in general. Highs on Saturday will reach the upper 50s before the front passes and Sunday morning lows will be a bit cool dropping down near freezing for the first time this week. Highs on Sunday will reach the low 50s due to the winds coming back out of the northeast behind the front. Sunday night lows will also be a tad cold as well dropping down somewhere between 35-36° to start next week.

The next chance for severe weather looks to be in the way for next week. Sometime on Tuesday a powerful system will be moving through. This system looks to be setting up to bring a round of severe weather to the Mid South. We will watch the forecast closely this week and bring you daily updates on the timing of the event as well as who is most likely to be impacted from the storms. The Storm Prediction Center has already outline an area they are most concerned for the upcoming event which was still 7 days out as of Wednesday. Please stay weather aware as severe seems highly likely from the system as of now, including strong storms in West Tennessee between Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday night!
