JMCSS leaders meet to discuss new business for the district
JACKSON, Tenn. — Jackson-Madison County School Board leaders met to share exciting news for the direction of the school district.

Greg Hammond with Jackson-Madison County School System spoke on how the system will now navigate since the Education Freedom Act has been passed. He says that Jackson-Madison county schools will continue to provide opportunities for students.
“Our number one concern is to do what we can to be the best school district we can be. There’s a lot of things we can’t control but there are things we can control. Making this a great school district not only for our employers but for our students. If you look across the district we have several level 5 schools. We’re expanding opportunities for students; not just in sports, not just in fine arts, but also in robots. Also in greenpower, our students are getting early opportunities in engineering in the sciences in stem,” said Hammond.
Although Superintendent Dr. Marlon King will speak on the state of the district in March, he shares that the JMCSS is continuing to produce greatness for their students. Just recently, the school board announced flag football would be added to area high schools.

“What’s going on at Malesus Innovation Center is just exciting it’s really not happening anywhere else to this level in rural West Tennessee and so for those reasons we’re excited about that,” said Hammond.
Along with that during Thursday night’s work session, the board shared updates and possible progress of what they’re planning to bring.

“We heard from several committees tonight. You heard from the budget committee, the athletic committee — also the personnel committee, and so this continued conversation the superintendent is having with the board members — what can we do as a school system to not only attract qualified employees but keep qualified employees,” said Hammond.
Hammond says that the Jackson-Madison County Schools is continuing to look at innovative ways to keep talented and to attract talented employees to the district.
