Educator of the Week: Kristina Doyle
It’s time now to recognize our Educator of the Week, brought to you by the Tennessee Education Lottery.
Kristina Doyle is a 2nd grade reading and math teacher at South Haven Elementary School.
She says her career was inspired by past teachers.
“Back when I was a little girl, all the teachers that I had going up through elementary school and high school and even into college, they inspired me to be a teacher because I always wanted to be just like them,” Doyle said. “I always formed special relationships with them, and I always wanted kids to look up to me the way I looked up to all my previous teachers.”
Doyle started her 15th year teaching this past January.
She shares her favorite part of being an educator.
“When a student comes into me and they may be super low and, by the end of the year, they’re on benchmark or they’ve made improvements or major gains. That’s the highlight of my teaching,” said Doyle.
Doyle explains that her teaching style is hands on and concrete.
“When I was a little girl, I had to work hard to get my grades and I had trouble remembering things, so I try to relate to them that way, that way give them special things like rows and columns, up and down and sideways, so that that’ll help them remember things like that.”
This is Doyle’s second time being Educator of the Week.
“I had won it back when I was in Scott’s Hill several years ago, so I thought, ‘Well, I would never get a chance to get it here at South Haven,’ so I’m super shocked and excited.”
Doyle is now eligible for the Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month award.
