State senator, representative visits Jackson for ‘Capitol Talk’

JACKSON, Tenn. — A state senator and a state representative came to Jackson to discuss some of the work they have been doing in Nashville.

Senator Ed Jackson and Representative Chris Todd came to Jackson for their regular ‘Capitol Talk’ meeting at the Greater Jackson Chamber. Many items were discussed with each of them speaking for a few minutes about different items they are focused on.

“But we’re re-opening Decatur County and Perry County. Those are hospitals that closed a number of years ago. Decatur County has gutted, they put a new roof on, and they’re going to be opening that soon,” said Senator Jackson.

Senator Jackson also spoke about unclaimed property. You can easily find out if you have any unclaimed property and you may be able to get some money back by simply going to the state’s treasury website.

“Properties awaiting to be claimed are 95,000. This is in Madison County. A total of $9 million and $91,000,” said Senator Jackson.

There was also a time for questions to be asked by those who attended. One of the questions had to do with immigration and if there was a better way to help people come into the country legally.

“They want a better immigration system that will allow more good people to join us and assimilate into our society. I think that’s pretty much universal from what I’ve seen or heard from around the state. But they want people to do it the right way. Some of the folks that are most adamant about that, are the folks that have done it the right way,” said Representative Todd.

Representative Johnny Shaw is normally at these meetings, however he was unable to attend this time.
