New stove that plugs into a normal wall outlet could be major gain for health and the climate
NEW YORK (AP) – For 47 million American households, cooking means a gas stove.
Gas stoves generate gases that aren’t good for people’s health and the gas itself contributes to climate change.
But switching to electric cooking usually requires a licensed electrician to pull in 240-volt wiring, which can make switching from gas to electric expensive.
Now a new stove built by a startup company called Copper can be plugged into a 120-volt circuit, meaning a regular outlet.
It or something similar could end up being a breakthrough for indoor air quality and climate pollution.
The first stoves have been installed in Martinez, California and the manufacturer says it will deliver 10,000 units to the New York City Housing Authority in 2026.
