Gusty Winds Continue, Cold & Blustery on Wednesday
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:
Heavy rain and a few storms will continue to mix in over the next few hours here in West Tennessee. Overall our severe storm threat appears to be quite low. That being said, strong gusty winds will continue to wreak havoc over the next 24-30 hours. Expect some more limbs and trees to go down in some areas with some potential power outages possible. We are still watching things closely and will go live on WBBJ if any of these storms become dangerous. If they do not, we will have the latest on the radar and forecast information coming up here.
THIS WEEK:
The next round of heavy rain and a few storms will move through Tuesday evening across West Tennessee. The main concern with these storms will be straight line wind gusts in excess of 50 MPH. The greatest chance for a storm or two will be southeast of Jackson. Heavy rain, isolated thunder and lightning though can be expected this evening before moving out by 9pm Tuesday night. Half of us are under a level 2 (slight risk) and half of us are under a level 1 (marginal risk). All of West Tennessee as well is under a wind advisory. Very gusty southwest winds are going to impact everyone on Tuesday night and strong winds are expected to continue and come out of the west on Wednesday.

It was a warm Monday with highs up next 70° with plenty of sunshine, but clouds moved back late Monday and have stuck around all day Tuesday. Clouds will stick around for the most part until Thursday. Tuesday started around 50° and we warmed back up to the upper 60s on Tuesday. Southwest winds were sustained between 20-25 MPH with gusts as high as 45 MPH into the afternoon and evening hours. The winds will not let up until Wednesday night for us.

As the front approached on Tuesday, it allowed a round of rain showers and weak storms to develop in the early afternoon. The rain should wrap up by 8pm and that is when the cooler weather will start to move in. Tuesday night lows will fall down to the mid 40s but highs on Wednesday will stay in the mid to upper 40s as well. On top of the cold, those winds are really going to bite on Wednesday as well making it feel much cooler than it actually will be. We are going to drop down to around 30° Wednesday night and that is when the winds will begin to weaken some. The clouds will also break up some Wednesday night and we should see plenty of sunshine on Thursday.
Thursday will start out chilly below freezing but even with the northwest winds, highs should make it a little above 50°. We will be dry on Thursday and Thursday night lows will fall down to around 40°. The winds will return to the southwest late overnight Thursday into the day on Friday. The next disturbance will look to move through late in the day on Friday. The timing and strength of that system is still being determined but as of now, it does not look to pack anywhere near the punch of Tuesday’s system. Those southwest winds will warm us up nicely on Friday into the mid 60s and Friday night lows will drop down to the low 40s. The next front should move through Friday night cooling things down a bit for the weekend.
THE WEEKEND:
The weekend will be a little cool across West Tennessee with highs in the mid 50s on Saturday before warming back up to around 70° on Sunday. There will be a few shower chances early in the day on Saturday and depending how far south the cold front gets before it stalls out will determine how long those showers will be sticking around for during the day and if they will move back through on Sunday or not. Right now, we are expecting a dry day on Sunday, but we should know more as the week goes on. Saturday night lows will fall down to the mid 30s and Sunday night lows will only fall to the mid 40s. The reason it will be warmer Sunday night will be due to the change in the wind direction. Most of the weekend the winds will come out of the north, but sometime late Sunday night the winds will shift back to the southwest making for a warm start to next week as well!
