Madison County leaders discuss school demolition, health insurance in budget meeting

JACKSON, Tenn. — Madison County leaders held a budget committee meeting Tuesday.

The agenda addressed a number of line items the committee discussed including: new Pope School, which is confirmed to be on track to open in August.

They are also working on demolishing Beech Bluff School. Other matters include their weigh in on health insurance; determining whether, as a county, to absorb the cost of the increase in health insurance.

Other suggested options are to pass insurance on to employees or do an incremental increase this year and next year to alleviate doing a big increase in the future.

“This is a great time to be in Madison County. There’s a lot of growth coming here. What we’re wanting to do as commissioners or something I want to do is move barriers for growth making it a better place to live for everybody,” said Mike Bryant, Madison County Commissioner for district 4.

A number of budget amendments were approved for fiscal year 2025.
