UPDATE: Officer-involved shooting in Lexington, suspect found deceased

UPDATE:

LEXINGTON, TENN.—We have an update to a top developing story, as the TBI is investigating an officer-involved shooting that took place on Friday night involving the Lexington Police Department.

Officers responded to a domestic incident on Natchez Trace Drive around 7:45 pm Friday evening.

A female exited the residence followed by Robert Tate, who then exchanged gunfire with officers.

Tate retreated into the home and was later found deceased. One officer was shot, treated at a hospital, and released.

The TBI is collecting evidence and conducting interviews to determine the events of the shooting.

The findings will be reviewed by the district attorney general, who will decide if the officers’ actions were justified.

Suspect barricaded in Lexington home following officer-involved shooting

LEXINGTON, Tenn. — A large police presence has gathered in Lexington where officials confirm an officer has been shot.

Earlier around 8:30 p.m., several WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News tipsters alerted us to a large police presence in the 700 block of Natchez Trace Drive in Lexington.

When we arrived to the scene, we noticed officers from the Lexington Police Department, Henderson County Sheriff’s Office and Tennessee Highway Patrol on scene. Fire and ambulance vehicles were also present. Officials had a section of Natchez Trace Drive blocked off as they worked outside a home where a suspect barricaded themselves inside.

A special ops vehicle from the Jackson Police Department also arrived a few hours later.

At this time, officials have not shared the condition of the officer who was shot. Stay with us on air and online as we continue to follow this developing story.
