Major upgrades underway for JMCSS
JACKSON, Tenn. — The Jackson-Madison County School System has some exciting updates on their Community Unity Project.
The district’s Community Unity Project has completed the Malesus Stem Innovation Center, and now moves on to its next phases.
The project includes a multi-purpose stadium and track, the conversion of the old Madison building into the district’s central office, updates to the Oman Arena and a new Pope School.
Here you can see drone footage of the construction of the new school.
“That’s really going to be a massive campus that meets, really, a need that’s been 30 years in the making here in Jackson-Madison County. So we’re excited about the progress at the Pope School construction, but also the progress that’s going on mid-town/east Jackson with Hub City Central,” said Greg Hammond, chief of public information for JMCSS.
The multi-purpose stadium and track meets a historic need in the district. Athletes would be able to practice and compete on a regulation track facility.
“So when you look over at Hub City Central, I know folks are excited to see much of the progress, and it’s happening in phases. You look over at Oman Arena, you can tell a new roof has been put on the Oman Arena, a new coating and so getting that protected before work begins on the inside of Oman Arena,” said Hammond.
The new district office will serve as a central space for employees and also families.
“Nearly 300 students throughout the Jackson-Madison County School System throughout the year are homeless, and so our family support team does a great job in meeting many of those needs, and when the central office is moved to that central location, those supports will become even greater,” said Hammond.
Pope School is scheduled to be complete and open this fall.
