Educator of the Week: Angela ‘Lucy’ Jones
It’s time now to recognize our Educator of the Week, brought to you by the Tennessee Education Lottery.
Angela “Lucy” Jones is a Special Education/ABC PACE teacher at Bolivar Elementary School.
“After I experienced everything with my own special needs children, I wanted to give back to others, to share my experience with other parents, to let them know that they’re not alone and that they can also make a difference in their child’s life, they just have to be their advocate,” Jones said.
Jones’ late daughter attended Hardeman County schools. She graduated in 2010 and was able to attend a special event last summer.
“It was a blessing that she got to go to her first class reunion before she passed away,” Jones said.
Jones shares her favorite part of being an educator.
“Loving on these babies. Just having fun with them, just having fun. Watching them learn and watching them progress,” Jones said.
For future educators, Jones offers this advice.
“Just do a search of yourself, you know, and then also ask the good lord for what he has for your life,” Jones said. “Make yourself, like they say, open and available to learn and to be able to, you know, share. Share what you learn with others.”>
Jones was surprised by her nomination.
“Oooh, I was very shocked.”
When people ask about the perseverance needed in her career, Jones credits her faith.
“They just look at me like ‘How can you do it? How can you do it?’ I said ‘Well I’m gonna tell you.’ It’s by the grace of God I can do, all things are possible through Christ who strengthens me.”
Jones has been making a difference for years.
“These beautiful children, now they love on you and, when they come back, I have children that have came back, they have graduated, went on to college,” Jones said. “I have touched a lot of lives.”
Jones is now eligible for the Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month award.
