Search begins for next ‘McLoughlin’ to take on historic Irish pub

JACKSON, Tenn. — In a bid to preserve the tradition of family-owned Irish pubs, Heineken is launching a worldwide campaign to find a successor for McLoughlin’s Bar, a 155-year-old pub nestled on Ireland’s stunning Achill island.

Joseph “Josie” McLoughlin, the fourth-generation owner who was born in the pub, is searching for a new McLoughlin to carry on his family’s legacy, as he has no successor to take over the iconic pub.

This global initiative, aimed at the 88 million people of Irish descent around the world, is offering the rare chance to own a piece of Irish history and ensure the pub’s survival for future generations.

“I mean we just didn’t think it was going to be this global. It’s not just America, it’s in Australia – the same campaign – it’s in Argentina, it’s in Vietnam, it’s in Canada, it’s just global! It’s just phenomenal how it’s taken off,” said McLoughlin.

As well as putting its marketing might behind the independent pub owner with billboards and ads all over the world, Heineken will be offering a succession package to “The new McLoughlin” to help them get their feet behind the bar, including mentorship, business support, and initial investment guidance to ensure the pub remains a thriving part of the community.
