Reckless Motorist Arrested After Multi-County Pursuit

Crockett County, TN – The Crockett County Sheriff’s Department is reporting the successful apprehension of a motorist who led law enforcement on a dangerous and reckless pursuit spanning multiple counties. The incident began on the afternoon of March 20, 2025, when deputies from the Dyer County Sheriff’s Office observed a vehicle driving erratically and exhibiting signs of reckless behavior on Highway 51 between Newbern and Dyersburg.

Upon witnessing the dangerous driving, Dyer County deputies initiated a traffic stop. However, the suspect failed to comply and fled the scene, leading Crockett County deputies to engage in pursuit as well. The suspect’s reckless actions escalated when he attempted to collide with a Tennessee Highway Patrol vehicle, further endangering the lives of officers and other motorists.

Through coordinated efforts, Crockett County deputies and the Tennessee Highway Patrol were able to successfully stop the suspect’s vehicle on Highway 412 near Highway 70/79. The motorist, Eddie Ray Patterson age 36, was taken into custody.

The individual is currently facing multiple charges across several jurisdictions, including but not limited to:

  • Reckless driving
  • Evading arrest
  • Assault on a law enforcement officer
  • Speeding
  • Other traffic-related offenses

“We are thankful for the swift and professional response of all agencies involved, including the Dyer County Sheriff’s Office and the Tennessee Highway Patrol,” said Sheriff Troy Klyce. “This incident highlights the dangers of reckless driving and the commitment of our law enforcement officers to keep our communities safe.”

The Crockett County Sheriff’s Department urges all motorists to adhere to traffic laws to ensure the safety of all road users. The suspect is being held at the Crockett County Jail, pending further legal proceedings.
