FDA approves new immunotherapy-based treatment option
JACKSON, Tenn. — Patients with certain cancers now have a new, faster method of receiving treatment.
The FDA recently approved an immunotherapy-based treatment option that can be administered by under the skin, injection.
This new method can deliver consistent efficacy and comparable safety as the IV treatment with faster delivery. This has significant impact in terms of options for patients and caregivers.
“There’s increased flexibility now with this new immunotherapy treatment and the delivery method because it doesn’t necessarily have to be in a traditional hospital setting. There’s also decreased administration time,” said Audrey Davis, licensed professional counselor.
This new treatment takes 2 to 5 minutes for injection instead of a traditional 30 minute infusion.
This refers only to the time it takes to give the injection, actual time present at the clinic can vary.
