FedEx truck catches fire after crashing on I-40

JACKSON, Tenn. — Tuesday afternoon, emergency responders were called to the scene of a fiery crash on I-40 near mile marker 48 after a FedEx truck ran off the road and into the trees.

The single vehicle crash happened shortly after 12 p.m.

The preliminary report indicates the truck was traveling west on I-40 when it crossed the median and into the eastbound lanes.

The vehicle overturned and came to a stop in the tree line in the gore of exit 47. When our crews arrived, the cab of the truck was engulfed in flames. The Tennessee Highway Patrol, Haywood County Sheriff’s Office, and the fire department all responded to the scene.

The report indicates the driver was injured, but the extent of his injuries is unknown at this time.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
