Nice & Mild this Week, Severe Storm Threat Back on Sunday!

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:

A weak stalled out front moved south of us this afternoon and that brought in a mild and dry northwest breeze with it. It is just too dry for any rain to develop along the boundary tonight. Highs will reach the low 70s on Wednesday but warmer and more humid weather is coming to finish the work week. Rain chances and a threat for severe weather will return though this weekend in West Tennessee. Catch the full forecast and latest details coming up here.

If you were curious if last Friday morning was our last freeze of the season, it looks possible. but not likely as of now. We usually see our last freeze during the first week of April and our last front during the second week of April.  The earliest last freeze of record for Spring was set back in 2017 on March 16th, so it is possible that was our last freeze, just cannot give a definitive answer yet since we still have two weeks until our average last freeze. There does not appear to be a freeze coming though this week.

THIS WEEK:

After a few storms on Sunday, it appears a dry pattern will return for the rest of the work week. The next chance for rain and showers will be showing back up this weekend. There appears to be a threat for severe weather on Sunday as well. After dropping into the mid 20s Friday morning, a warm up came this weekend but we were a little cooler on Monday before Sunday night’s cold front.

Some clouds moved through today due to a low pressure system and stationary front sitting just north of us. That front passed through Tuesday and brought a change in the winds back to the northwest. Temperatures hit the mid 70s on Tuesday and we will be a little cooler on Wednesday. The winds were a bit breezy on Tuesday due to the front dropping in from the north. Wednesday morning lows will reach the mid 40s and highs on Wednesday will only reach the low 70s at best. We will see sunny skies though for the most part on Wednesday and Wednesday night lows will again be a bit cool falling down into the mid 40s again.

The winds on Thursday will return back to the south as the stationary front will be lifted back to the north of us. This will allow temperatures to reach the mid 70s again. We will see a few clouds on Thursday but overall we are looking at mostly sunny skies. Thursday night will be warmer due to the southerly winds and lows will drop down to the mid 50s to kick off our Friday.

Friday looks like a warm and humid day with highs reaching the upper 70s to near 80°. We will see partly cloudy skies and some showers will be close to the Mississippi River on Friday but should stay out of West Tennessee. The winds will be a bit breezy and come out of the south on Friday. Friday night lows will be warm due to the high humidity and only fall as low as the low 60s.

THE WEEKEND:

Rain chances and thunderstorms will return again for the weekend in West Tennessee. The main threat for severe storms will be on Sunday but there could be some rain showers and storm activity late in the day on Saturday as well. Highs on Saturday will reach the low to mid 70s depending on the thickness of the clouds and the timing of the rain showers. Saturday night will be quite warm with lows falling to the mid 60s to kick off our Sunday.

It is going to be a warm and humid weekend and that will set the stage for our next chance for severe weather on Sunday. As of now, the Storm Prediction Center has put all of West Tennessee under a 15%  chance for severe weather. Expect that number to climb to 30% by Wednesday. We will likely be under at least a level 2 and most likely a level 3 before the system gets here. This set-up is similar to the one that brought all the tornadoes to Missouri 2 weeks ago; so we need to monitor this situation closely as the week progresses. Highs on Sunday will make it up to around 80° and we will be cooler as we kick off the following week.
